Powering a Sustainable Future

Pangbisa, Bhutan – In a significant step toward energy security and sustainability, Dungkar Estate has launched a new 1 MW solar energy installation on March 9, further strengthening Bhutan’s renewable energy capacity. This initiative follows the successful commissioning of 1.6 MW of solar power, bringing the total installed capacity to 2.6 MW and reinforcing the nation’s commitment to energy self-sufficiency and diversification.

This achievement has been made possible through a partnership with the De-Suung Skilling Programme (DSP) Solar Initiative under His Majesty’s Secretariat. The initiative has trained De-suups in solar energy installation and management, equipping them with essential skills that contribute to Bhutan’s transition to renewable energy. More than an infrastructure project, this program empowers individuals and communities to take ownership of a sustainable future.

By expanding its solar capacity, Dungkar Estate is taking concrete steps toward enhancing energy security, diversifying sources to ensure stability and resilience, and strengthening energy self-sufficiency by complementing hydropower to maintain year-round energy availability. The initiative also fosters national capacity-building by engaging De-suups in the renewable energy sector while contributing to the decarbonization of Bhutan’s economy. The project not only reduces emissions but also supports the transition to a circular economy, demonstrating how sustainability and innovation can go hand in hand.

This milestone aligns with His Majesty’s vision for sustainable innovation, energy security, and circular economy solutions. Dungkar Estate extends its deepest gratitude to its partners and their dedicated teams for making this possible. As Bhutan continues to lead in renewable energy, projects like this pave the way for a greener and more self-sufficient nation.

“This initiative is not just about adding megawatts—it’s about building a resilient and sustainable future for Bhutan,” a spokesperson for Dungkar Estate stated.
