Their Majesties the King and Queen of Thailand conclude Historic State Visit to Bhutan at Dungkar Dzong

Dungkar Dzong, Bhutan – April 28, 2025 — The recent State Visit by Their Majesties the King and Queen of Thailand to Bhutan marked a historic chapter in the enduring friendship between the two kingdoms. As the first-ever State Visit to Bhutan by a Thai monarch, the occasion reflected the deep-rooted ties between the Royal Families, a shared spiritual heritage, and the longstanding goodwill between the peoples of Thailand and Bhutan.

The final day of the four-day visit, April 28, was celebrated with a special program at Dungkar Dzong, where Their Majesties were graciously hosted by His Majesty The Druk Gyalpo and Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen.

Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay formally received Their Majesties the King and Queen of Thailand upon their arrival at the Dzong.

Their Majesties The Druk Gyalpo and Gyaltsuen and the King and Queen of Thailand offered butter lamps at the Rigsum Gonpo Lhakhang at Dungkar Dzong, reflecting the deep spiritual connections that bind the two nations.

During their visit to Dungkar Dzong, Their Majesties viewed a presentation on the Dzong’s historical and contemporary significance, including its role as home to several key institutions such as the Druk Gyalpo’s Institute. Students from The Royal Academy, a core part of the Institute, showcased various educational projects and initiatives, demonstrating Bhutan’s focus on holistic and forward-looking education.

Their Majesties viewed a presentation on Gelephu Mindfulness City — a vision for sustainable and inclusive urban development in southern Bhutan, rooted in the principles of Gross National Happiness.

In a moving cultural tribute, students from The Royal Academy presented a cultural performance in honour of Their Majesties the King and Queen of Thailand at Dungkar Dzong, where the school is housed, further strengthening the cultural bridge between the two nations.

The visit concluded with a ceremonial send-off at Dungkar Dzong, where Their Majesties the King and Queen of Thailand were seen off by the Prime Minister and senior officials.

The State Visit leaves behind a lasting legacy of strengthened diplomatic ties and a deepened sense of friendship between Bhutan and Thailand. It reaffirmed the profound respect and affection shared by the two nations, leaving behind a legacy of deepened friendship and renewed commitment to the values shared by Bhutan and Thailand.
